What Deshimaru Satsuma Kiriko is known for
Deshimaru is a Kirishima-based cut glass studio founded by artisan Tsutomu Deshimaru to continue Satsuma kiriko, the layered cut-glass technique that traces to the Shimazu-era workshops of the 1850s and was revived in 1985. The studio trains apprentices in the gradation cutting that gives each piece its signature sparkle and sells finished glassware directly from its own site.
