Dockers

California, USA

What Dockers is known for

Levi Strauss & Co. brand launched in 1986, named after the British term for dockworkers; credited with popularizing khaki trousers as business-casual wear and with helping establish 'Casual Friday' in American offices during the 1990s.

Dockers was introduced by Levi Strauss & Co. in 1986, built around khaki trousers positioned as a step between formal suiting and casual jeans. The name traces back further: in 1982 Levi Strauss & Co.'s Argentina division created a line of nautically inspired fashion jeans it called 'Dockers,' borrowing the British term for longshoremen. Under Bob Siegel's leadership, the brand became closely associated with the rise of business-casual dressing in American workplaces during the 1990s and is widely credited with helping drive the adoption of 'Casual Friday.' Dockers added a women's line in 1987 and expanded into Europe in 1993.
