What Egonlab is known for
Paris fashion label founded by Florentin Glémarec and Kévin Nompeix, who met in 2018; named after painter Egon Schiele. Known for gender-fluid, punk-inflected tailoring shown at Paris Fashion Week, and organized as a wider 'laboratory' spanning fashion, music and visual art.
Egonlab was founded by Florentin Glémarec and Kévin Nompeix, who met in Paris in 2018 while Nompeix was working as a model agent and helped book Glémarec's early runway presentations. Glémarec had entered fashion as a teenage model before running a short-lived menswear label, Icosae, with his brother; Nompeix, from Bordeaux, continued working in modeling in part to help keep Egonlab self-financed in its early years. The label takes its name from Egon Schiele, the early-20th-century Viennese Expressionist painter, a reference the founders use to signal the brand's interest in blending masculine and feminine elements, echoing the ambiguity in Schiele's own figures. Rather than presenting itself purely as a clothing line, Egonlab is structured as a broader creative project spanning three branches — fashion, music, and visual arts — that the founders describe as a laboratory rather than a conventional maison. Its collections, shown during Paris Fashion Week, draw on nineteenth-century tailoring silhouettes filtered through punk and queer references, built around dark, romantic, genderfluid designs. The label's early recognition included finalist status for the Woolmark Prize and the Pierre Bergé ANDAM award, along with attention tied to its LVMH Prize candidacy, and it has also worked on collaborations, including with ASICS, and explored digital projects such as NFTs as part of its wider multidisciplinary approach.
