Elly Seidl is a Munich chocolate business whose history began with Barbara Grathwohl in 1918. Pralines and chocolate are central to its range, alongside cakes and other sweet gifts. Elly Seidl's Munich confectionery history began with Barbara Grathwohl in 1918. The business name combined her daughter Elly's name with Seidl, Grathwohl's maiden name. Her daughter took over in 1928, giving the familiar shop name a family story that is more precise than assuming it was the founder's own name.
Helmut and Beatrice Rambold leased the business in the early 1970s and acquired it in 2000. Their sons Maximilian and Oliver later took responsibility for its commercial and production work. Pralines and chocolate are central to the range. Cakes and other baked gifts also appear in the company's account.
In a 2018 Süddeutsche Zeitung interview, Maximilian described the months of testing that could go into developing a new praline. The report also visited the Maffeistraße shop and discussed filled chocolates, including champagne truffles and nougat. For a gift, choose the fillings with the recipient in mind and ask which contain alcohol. An assortment of pralines is a different purchase from a single chocolate bar or a cake for a particular occasion.
