What Finisterre is known for

Cornish cold-water surf brand founded 2003 by Tom Kay, a marine-biology graduate and former chartered surveyor, in a flat above a St Agnes surf shop. Started with a fleece; now a certified B Corp.

Finisterre was founded in 2003 by Tom Kay in a flat above a surf shop in St Agnes, Cornwall. Kay studied marine biology at university and was working in London as a chartered surveyor before deciding to start the brand, prompted by what he saw as weak ethics, design and functionality in existing action-sports apparel. The name Finisterre means 'the ends of the earth' or 'land's end.' The company began with a single fleece and expanded into a wider range of clothing designed to be worn before and after surfing in cold water. Finisterre has since become a certified B Corp, with sustainability positioned as central to its identity and product development.
