Golden Goose

Golden Goose was founded in Venice in 2000 by Alessandro Gallo and Francesca Rinaldo, a husband-and-wife design duo who made the era's most counterintuitive luxury bet: sell sneakers that arrive already lived-in. The Super-Star — scuffed suede star, smudged sole, laces pre-softened — turned deliberate distress into a signature, and a thousand think-pieces about paying more for less polish only advertised it further.

The method is genuinely artisanal: each pair is finished by hand in Venetian tradition, no two distressed alike, and the brand leans into it with co-creation stations where customers' shoes are painted, studded and scribbled on to order — sneakers as autograph books. The Ball Star, Mid Star and Francy extend the family; the price of imperfection climbs steadily.

Private equity scaled it globally — Permira since 2020 — into one of Italy's fastest-growing luxury companies, with a Marghera campus that trains its own artisans. The founding joke matured into a philosophy: perfection is sterile; the scuff is the story.
