What Histoire d’Or is known for
French jewelry chain launched in 1986 by Éric Belmonte, who conceived an accessibly priced, open-format jewelry store after struggling to find an affordable gift for his mother in Cannes; now operates 400+ stores across France and Belgium.
Histoire d'Or was founded in 1986 by Éric Belmonte, who at the time worked as a courier for luxury jewelers on the French Riviera. Searching Cannes for an affordable birthday gift for his mother, he found every jewelry shop he visited catered to a wealthy clientele and left him without an option he could afford. That experience led him to build a different kind of jewelry retailer: an open-format store, without the guarded counters typical of the trade, using a red-based identity and straightforward merchandising to make jewelry buying feel approachable rather than exclusive. The brand expanded through France before opening its first store outside the country, in Belgium, in 2007. In 2013 it launched an in-house training program, THOM Academy, alongside its e-commerce site, and in 2018 it added a lab-grown diamond line and established a corporate social responsibility department. Histoire d'Or is part of the Thom Group (Thom Europe), a French jewelry retail group operating several chains. Today Histoire d'Or runs more than 400 stores across France and Belgium, positioned as a mass-market rather than luxury jeweler, selling gold, diamonds, watches and gift-priced accessories.
