Howard's was a Paris menswear boutique founded in 1997 by Frederic Costa, who trained as a mechanic before turning to fashion. The house built its name on sartorial accessories: silk and wool grenadine neckties, madder-print ties, cashmere-blend scarves, silk twill pocket squares, and shirts, aimed at neighbourhood businessmen before growing into a name recognised among sartorial enthusiasts more broadly. Over the years Howard's built collaborations with the perfume house Caron and the menswear media brand Bonne Gueule. More recently, Costa has moved the business under his own name, now operating as Frederic Costa ('ex Howard's').
