What Huygens is known for

Marais apothecary founded 2013 by Sébastien, a former Dior and Givenchy perfumery hand, and Daan Sins, named for the 17th-century Dutch Huygens family of botanical scientists.

Huygens launched in 2013 in Paris's Marais district, co-founded by Sébastien — who had spent roughly a dozen years in luxury perfumery at houses including Christian Dior, Givenchy and brands within the L'Oréal group — and his business partner Daan Sins; the two met while both working at Yves Saint Laurent. The brand's name is a deliberate reference to Daan Sins's Dutch background: it honors the Huygens family, an influential 17th-century Dutch family sent to the French court, remembered in part for their passion for the science of plants.

Huygens positions itself around COSMOS-certified organic skincare and aromatherapy, with production kept entirely within France and each production batch assigned a traceable identifier back to its ingredient suppliers; facilities carry Ecocert, Cosmebio and ISO 22716 certification. The brand built early visibility when stylist Inès de la Fressange featured its organic bath oil in her first newsletter in 2015, and it has since expanded export sales across Europe.

The founding-partner backgrounds (Dior/Givenchy/L'Oréal perfumery experience plus the Huygens-family name reference) are the concrete, checkable facts distinguishing this from a generic 'natural skincare' listing.
