Jean-Claude Jitrois, born January 10, 1944 in Narbonne, worked first as a child psychotherapist before turning to fashion. He opened his first boutique in Nice in 1979 under his own name, working in leather, and relocated the business to Paris in 1984, setting up on rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore. Jitrois's defining contribution is stretch leather: in the 1980s he began developing leather that moves with the body rather than the traditional stiff hide, refined a wrinkle-resistant technique in 1993, and in 2009 patented a version of stretch leather that could be machine-washed and ironed. The house built a client list that has included Johnny Hallyday, Celine Dion, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga.
