Julien Fournie founded his eponymous haute couture house in Paris in 2009, and it is recognized as one of a small group of maisons - the house's own materials cite sixteen worldwide - that hold France's official Haute Couture designation. His debut collection, 'First Pieces,' shown in June 2009, introduced the design vocabulary the house has continued to develop: structural 'back windows,' Art Deco-inspired lace, and combinations of traditional fabrics like silk drape, muslin, and organza with more experimental materials. That debut earned Fournie the Grand Prize for Creativity from the City of Paris in January 2010. He has continued presenting under a 'First' naming convention for subsequent collections.
