KEVIN.MURPHY was founded in Melbourne in 2004 by hairstylist Kevin Murphy, whose background was in runway, editorial and film styling. He began developing his own formulations at age 22, including a lavender-based styling cream, out of frustration at the lack of products suited to reproducing looks needed on set. Working with business partner Peter McDonald, he launched the brand with an initial line of seven products, formulated without sulphates or parabens. The brand markets itself under the tagline 'skin care for your hair' and marked its 20th anniversary around 2024.
