Knowledge Cotton Apparel

Denmark

What Knowledge Cotton Apparel is known for

Danish textile company rooted in a 1969 Herning mill founded by Jorgen Morup; relaunched as Knowledge Cotton Apparel in 2008 by his son Mads, making organic-cotton menswear and aiming for carbon neutrality (achieved 2019) and plastic-free operations by 2030.

The company behind Knowledge Cotton Apparel traces to 1969, when 22-year-old Jorgen Morup and his father started a small textile operation, J. Morup Stof, in a former fire station in Herning, in central Jutland, Denmark, focused on a limited range of high-quality cotton sportswear fabrics. Morup began working with organic cotton toward the end of the 1980s, ahead of most of the industry, and built the company's identity around resource-conscious production from early on. In 2008, his son Mads proposed turning the underlying idea into a standalone clothing brand, and J. Morup Stof became Knowledge Cotton Apparel - a menswear label built on organic cotton and recycled fibers. The brand became a certified carbon-neutral company in 2019 and has stated a goal of being completely plastic-free by 2030. It remains headquartered in Herning, the same town where the original mill began.
