L/Uniform was founded by Jeanne Signoles roughly a decade ago, reportedly after she grew frustrated hauling mismatched luggage and set out to design sturdy, practical bags instead. Signoles and her husband Alex, whose family owns the French trunk-maker Goyard, both came from accessory-design backgrounds. The brand's canvas bags, totes and travel pieces are produced by artisans in Carcassonne, using treated cotton or linen canvas, Spanish calfskin edging and sculptural hardware. The brand is based and retails out of Paris, with additional stores including locations in Japan.
