Lorenzo Villoresi

Lorenzo Villoresi, born in Florence in 1956, trained in philosophy and biblical philology before turning to perfumery — a path that began with years of travel rather than formal fragrance-industry training. His studies drew him toward ancient Jewish, Egyptian and Mesopotamian cultures, and research trips through the Middle East exposed him to the raw materials, spices and oriental aromatics that would define his later work. He founded his own perfume house in 1990, setting up in his family's fifteenth-century palazzo overlooking the Arno in the historic center of Florence — a building with restored frescoes that still houses the boutique today. Villoresi built his reputation on bespoke, custom-blended fragrances rather than a conventional retail fragrance line, working directly with raw essences and potpourris in a manner closer to an atelier than an industrial perfumery. His work earned international recognition in 2006, when he received the Prix François Coty in Paris, one of the perfume industry's honors for a body of independent work. Staying close to his home city, Villoresi founded the Florence Perfume Museum in 2018, a project intended to document and preserve the history and craft of perfumery. His fragrances, including the potpourri-based Teint de Neige, are sold through the Florence boutique and internationally through select retailers, but the house's identity remains tied to the original Arno-side palazzo where Villoresi has worked since 1990.
