Maison Matisse

Maison Matisse is a Paris home-design house founded in 2019 by the family of painter Henri Matisse, with his great-grandson Jean-Matthieu Matisse among its founders, built to translate the artist's paintings into functional objects rather than reproduce them as prints. Its first two collections, "La Musique" and "Intérieur aux aubergines," were each developed from a specific Matisse canvas, reworking their color palettes and motifs into furniture, tableware, textiles and décor through collaborations with contemporary craftspeople. In March 2022 the house opened its first permanent boutique at 38 rue du Bac, in Paris's 7th arrondissement on the Left Bank, near the Rue du Bac metro station -- a space designed like a furnished apartment rather than a conventional shop, so pieces could be seen in a lived-in setting. The founders have described customer response to the boutique as strongly positive in the period after opening. The house has since added a second Paris address, an events space at 8 Rue des Francs Bourgeois in the Marais, used for exhibitions and presentations tied to Paris Design Week and Maison&Objet. Maison Matisse offers click-and-collect from its rue du Bac boutique alongside its e-commerce operation, positioning the brand as both a design label and a physical destination for admirers of Matisse's visual language.
