What Museum is known for
Italian outerwear label founded 1986, originally distributing North American brands like Woods, Mondetta and Pendleton to Europe; since new ownership took over around 2000 it designs its own workwear- and military-inspired jackets.
Museum was founded in 1986 by an Italian stylist whose original idea was to gather several established North American outerwear brands - including Woods, Mondetta, and Pendleton - under one label for distribution into a European sportswear market where that category barely existed yet. Around 2000, new ownership took over what was then a company with, in marketing manager Edoardo Ambrosini's own account, 'almost one jacket' in its line, and rebuilt Museum into a design house with its own collections. Today the brand designs menswear it describes as inspired by workwear, military, and utility garments, spanning shirts, knitwear, outerwear, and trousers across sub-lines including Antarctica, Fiumi e Foreste, and Ground Field. In a 2013 interview, Ambrosini said Museum's pieces were manufactured 'in different countries all over the world as the technique asked for,' prioritizing the right factory for a given garment over a single country of origin.
