Needle & Thread was founded in 2013 by British designer Hannah Coffin, who traces her interest in sewing to being given a Singer sewing machine by her grandmother as a child. She studied Fashion and Textiles at Ravensbourne University in London and worked in the fashion industry for roughly a decade before launching her own label. The brand's identifying signature is hand-embellishment - sequin work, embroidery and other applied detailing on tulle and similar fabrics - applied to gowns, day dresses, bridalwear and, more recently, childrenswear, knitwear and loungewear. Coffin remains the brand's founder and CEO, stocked internationally by department stores including Harvey Nichols.
