Officine Universelle Buly

Paris / Marais

📍 27-29 rue Guénégaud, 75006 Paris

What Officine Universelle Buly is known for

Revival of a Paris perfumery founded by Jean-Vincent Bully in 1803 on rue Saint-Honoré, relaunched in 2014 by Ramdane Touhami and Victoire de Taillac in Saint-Germain-des-Prés. A second boutique opened in the Haut-Marais in 2017; stores are designed as 19th-century-style apothecaries.

Officine Universelle Buly takes its name and concept from a perfumery originally opened in Paris in 1803 by Jean-Vincent Bully, whose shop on rue Saint-Honoré sold perfumes and toilet vinegars before closing after the 1830 Revolution. The name and heritage were revived in 2014 by Ramdane Touhami and his wife Victoire de Taillac-Touhami, who reopened the brand as Officine Universelle Buly 1803 with a first boutique on rue Bonaparte in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, followed by a second store in the Haut-Marais in 2017. The brand is now headquartered at 27-29 rue Guénégaud in Paris's 6th arrondissement. Its stores are built to evoke a 19th-century French apothecary or pharmacy, with marble-topped walnut counters, wooden cabinetry and staff uniforms designed to echo the period, extending to the packaging and branding of the products themselves. The range includes water-based perfumes, skincare, hair oils, soaps and grooming tools such as combs, largely produced using natural ingredients, with manufacturing described as taking place partly in France and partly in Japan. The revival built on Touhami's earlier work relaunching heritage French houses and became one of the more widely imitated 'apothecary theatre' retail concepts in French niche beauty over the following decade.
