Pedro del Hierro

Pedro del Hierro was born in Madrid in 1948, the son of painter and teacher Pedro Mozos, from whom he inherited an interest in art. He trained partly in Paris, where he was present during the May 1968 protests, an experience he later described as shaping his creative direction. He first showed his own collections in Madrid in 1974, and at 28 became the youngest couturier ever admitted to Spain's chamber of haute couture. The label he founded that year moved from custom haute couture toward prêt-à-porter tailoring for men and women, built around classic-inspired silhouettes and structured suiting rather than seasonal trend pieces. In 1989 the brand entered an exclusive commercial agreement with Grupo Cortefiel, and the group took full ownership in 1992; Cortefiel was later rebranded Tendam, the company that still owns Pedro del Hierro today alongside labels including Springfield and Women'secret. Pedro del Hierro himself died in 2015. In 2024 the brand marked its 50th anniversary with a tribute exhibition to its founder and an anniversary runway show, framed by Tendam as recognition of one of the defining names in modern Spanish fashion. The label is now sold through roughly 300 points of sale across 42 countries, still built on the tailoring-led, prêt-à-porter identity Pedro del Hierro established in Madrid in the 1970s.
