Persée was founded in 2017 by Nawal Laoui, a French jewelry designer who trained and worked at Fabergé and then Audemars Piguet before leaving at 25 to start her own house. The brand's name refers to Perseus, the hero of Greek mythology, chosen to evoke boldness paired with light.
Laoui's signature technique came from her travels: she encountered a stone-drilling method developed by Japanese artisans that allows a diamond or gemstone to be pierced with extreme precision and mounted so it appears to float against the skin, held only by an almost invisible fine gold ring rather than a conventional prong setting. The approach lets light pass through and around the stone rather than being framed by metal, and it has become the house's defining mechanism across its rings, necklaces and earrings.
Persée operates as a Paris-based maison with its own boutiques in the city offering click-and-collect alongside its e-commerce operation, and its jewelry is also carried by multi-brand retailers including Samaritaine and Mytheresa. Laoui has described drawing on her Moroccan heritage and an interest in mythology and contemporary art alongside the Japanese piercing technique in shaping the brand's minimalist, sensual design language.
