Profumum Roma's roots go back to Celestino Durante, who returned from WWII to his farming hometown of Sant'Elena Sannita before relocating to Rome with his wife Luisa. He built a trade around a knife-grinding wheel that could also hone razors and scissors, which grew into shaving soaps, hair lotions and colognes as the family's Roman business expanded across generations. In 1996 Celestino's grandchildren - Giuseppe, Luciana, Maria and Felice Durante - broke away from the conventions of commercial perfumery to found Profumum Roma as an independent house. The brand is built around highly concentrated extraits, formulated around 43% perfume oil, well above typical eau de parfum strength, and presented in minimal, unlabelled-feeling bottles. Its catalogue includes Ambra Aurea, a dense amber composition that is among its best-known scents.
