What Royal Cheese is known for

Paris streetwear boutique launched in 1998 by Nordine and Christine Yousfi, growing out of a weekend vintage stall at the Puces de Saint-Ouen flea market since 1996; named after the Pulp Fiction 'Royal with Cheese' line, historically based on rue Tiquetonne near Les Halles.

Royal Cheese began as a weekend vintage-clothing stall at the Marché aux Puces de Saint-Ouen flea market in 1996, run by Nordine and Christine Yousfi. In 1998 the couple formalized the venture into a boutique, opening on rue Tiquetonne in the Etienne Marcel / Les Halles district of central Paris — an area that would become associated with the city's independent streetwear scene. Their goal was to sell durable, well-made clothing from brands unavailable elsewhere in France, particularly Japanese labels not otherwise carried by French retailers, positioning Royal Cheese as an early gateway for that kind of import curation in Paris. The shop's name references a scene from the film 'Pulp Fiction,' in which John Travolta's character explains that an American quarter-pounder with cheese is called a 'Royal Cheese' in Paris because of the metric system. Royal Cheese later expanded beyond its original rue Tiquetonne location, opening additional stores including locations in Le Marais, and grew into a small multi-store network across Paris carrying a mix of streetwear, denim and imported labels alongside its own house pieces.
