Salvatore Piccolo

Naples, Italy

📍 Via Carlo Poerio 92A, 80121 Naples, Italy

What Salvatore Piccolo is known for

Trained by his mother Maria Cavagnoli, who made bespoke shirts from their home in Naples' Piazza Mercato district, Salvatore Piccolo worked as a shirt-factory warehouseman from age fifteen before opening a made-to-measure shirt shop with her the following year, later adding jackets, ties and foulards.

Salvatore Piccolo learned shirtmaking from his mother, Maria Cavagnoli, who had begun working in a family shirtmaking workshop at age nine and later made bespoke shirts from their home in Naples' Piazza Mercato district. Salvatore started work at fifteen as a warehouseman for a shirt factory, absorbing the trade from the production side before, at sixteen, opening a small made-to-measure shirt shop together with his mother. Working client by client, he learned the cutting and construction techniques that define Neapolitan shirtmaking — a soft, unlined, hand-finished collar and a closer body than the classic English cut — and built a bespoke clientele that grew to several hundred customers worldwide. As demand increased, the original small shop expanded into a larger operation, and the label extended beyond bespoke shirts into ready-made shirts, jackets, ties and foulards, blending English, American and Italian tailoring references with techniques rooted in Neapolitan artisan shirtmaking.
