What Skis.com is known for
US online ski and snowboard retailer launched by Michigan's Summit Sports in the late 1990s; acquired in 2023 by Pennsylvania's Buckman's Ski and Snowboard Shops.
Skis.com is a US online retailer of skiing and snowboarding equipment and apparel. It grew out of Summit Sports, a Michigan ski-shop chain Steve Kopitz opened in 1990; Summit Sports launched the Skis.com website in the late 1990s as a hedge against the volatile Michigan snow-sports market, and the site went on to account for roughly 80 percent of the company's sales. Skis.com was named to Internet Retailer's "Hot 100" list of e-commerce sites in 2009. In June 2015, Digital Fuel Capital, a private-equity firm focused on e-commerce investments, acquired Skis.com. Ownership changed again in May 2023, when Buckman's Ski and Snowboard Shops - a family-owned Pennsylvania ski retailer with more than 50 years in business and seven physical stores - acquired the Skis.com and Snowboards.com domains. Under Buckman's, the company describes itself as family-owned and under new ownership. Skis.com continues to sell skis, snowboards, boots, bindings and outerwear online, alongside instructional and buying-guide content.
