Slowstitch Studio

Slowstitch Studio's founders, Kanchalee "Ann" Ngamdamronk and Sergey "Serge" Tishkin, met roughly a decade before founding the studio, in a small mountain village in Japan, where Serge was completing an informal apprenticeship under a textile master craftsman and Ann had arrived from Bangkok to study indigo dyeing and shibori. They formally established Slowstitch Studio together in 2015.

Most of the studio's work centers on shibori, the Japanese stitch-resist dyeing tradition, applied using a range of natural dyestuffs beyond indigo alone — sappanwood, maphuut bark, mangosteen and pomegranate skins, eucalyptus leaves, coffee, myrobalan tree pods and onion skins, each yielding a different hue.

After two to three years selling online only, the pair opened a physical shop in Loang Him Kao, an old craft-community neighborhood in Chiang Mai's San Kamphaeng district, where they also teach boro-style mending and botanical dye workshops in small groups.
