Stéphane Rolland was born in Paris in 1966 and trained at the École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne. Introduced by Pierre Bergé, Yves Saint Laurent's co-founder, he joined Balenciaga at age 20 and was promoted within a year to creative director of menswear and international licenses. He launched his own ready-to-wear line at 24 and secured an exclusive haute couture license with Balmain, before, at 30, taking over haute couture and ready-to-wear at Jean-Louis Scherrer on Avenue Montaigne, a house he led for a decade. In 2007 he founded his own namesake house, becoming one of only nine official members of France's Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture.
