Sugiura Tobo has displayed and sold potter Kenji Sugiura's work from its Shimoda storefront for 47 years, glazing pieces with a distinctive black Izu iron glaze made from local clay. The shop is open four days a week and welcomes browsers even when they aren't buying, though pieces are cash-and-carry only in person.
