Tactics Boardshop opened in 1999 as a brick-and-mortar shop in Eugene, Oregon, serving the local skateboarding and snowboarding community from a location near Skinner's Butte and the Washington-Jefferson Skatepark. Built around a specialty focus on board sports gear, apparel and accessories, the shop grew its reputation for curated selection and knowledgeable staff and expanded into online retail, becoming one of the larger dedicated snow, skate, surf and street specialty retailers selling nationally and internationally. The company later opened additional physical locations in Portland and Bend, Oregon, and a partner location in Sapporo, Japan (tacticsjapan.com). As of the mid-2020s, Tactics' own store-locator listings no longer include an Eugene address, and the original W. 4th Avenue storefront in Eugene is listed as closed on third-party business directories — the company's active physical retail footprint is now centered on Portland and Bend rather than its founding city, even as the Tactics brand and its Oregon roots remain part of its identity.
