Tokyo, Japan

What TAKAHIROMIYASHITA TheSoloist. is known for

Boutique in Tokyo's Aoyama district for TAKAHIROMIYASHITATheSoloist., designer Takahiro Miyashita's label launched in 2010; opened in 2011 as 'grocerystore.', later renamed TakahiromiyashitatheSoloist.AOYAMA.

Takahiro Miyashita, born in Tokyo in 1973, first made his name with NUMBER (N)INE, which he launched in 1996 and showed at Tokyo Collections from 2001 and Paris Fashion Week from 2004, before dissolving the label in 2009. He restarted under a new name, TAKAHIROMIYASHITATheSoloist., presenting its first collection (Winter 2010) that July; 'TheSoloist.' reflects his view that anyone working with clothing should carry a solitary, individual spirit rather than follow a house line. The brand's first physical retail space opened on September 9, 2011, in Tokyo's Aoyama district, originally under the name 'grocerystore.' - a compact space built around repurposed vintage fixtures, glass chandeliers and timber wardrobes reflecting Miyashita's long-standing fascination with Americana. It has since been renamed TakahiromiyashitatheSoloist.AOYAMA and remains the brand's flagship Tokyo location. Miyashita's design language across the label's history has stayed consistent: elongated silhouettes, a melancholic and musically referential mood, and Japanese-made construction. He returned to runway presentations under the TheSoloist. name from Spring/Summer 2018 in Tokyo, and was invited as a guest designer for Pitti Immagine Uomo the same year, staging a joint show with UNDERCOVER.
