The Different Company is a Paris-based niche perfume house founded in 2000 by perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena, alongside Thierry de Baschmakoff. Ellena, trained in the Grasse raw-materials tradition, was already an established figure in perfumery when the house launched. In 2005 Jean-Claude Ellena stepped back from composing for the house after becoming Hermes's in-house perfumer, and creative work passed to his daughter, Celine Ellena, who has composed the house's fragrances since. The independent house has been led and developed by Luc Gabriel since around 2004. The Different Company's collections include refillable bottles, travel formats and leather cases.
