Torrefaktum

Torrefaktum has roasted coffee in Hamburg since 2009, describing itself as a Manufaktur -- an artisanal producer working from 'Handwerk, Leidenschaft und ehrlichen Bohnen' (craftsmanship, passion, and honest beans). In 2022, the German food magazine Der Feinschmecker named Torrefaktum Hamburg's 'Kaffeerosterei des Jahres' (coffee roastery of the year) and ranked it among Germany's best roasteries -- outside recognition rather than a self-assigned claim. The roaster runs three Hamburg cafes -- in Ottensen, inside the ZEIT Cafe, and at Phoenixhof -- alongside its roastery operation. House espresso blends carry distinct names: Wake Up, Hey Dude, and Black Birdy, sold alongside filter blends, a decaf option, and tasting packages, available as whole bean or ground. As of the current site, the online shop is offline for maintenance, with existing orders still being processed through the end of that week -- a temporary operational note rather than a sign the roastery has closed. Between the 2022 Feinschmecker award and the spread across three distinct cafe formats (a standalone shop, a magazine-branded cafe, and a location inside Phoenixhof), Torrefaktum presents itself as an established, externally recognized Hamburg roaster rather than a newer or unproven operation, even with the 13-year gap between its 2009 founding and the award.
