What Valentine Gauthier is known for
Paris womenswear label by designer Valentine Gauthier, launched after she won the 2006 Dinard prize; opened her first Marais boutique in 2009 and an expanded flagship-plus-workshop there in 2018; sustainable since founding.
Valentine Gauthier is a Paris-based womenswear designer who studied geo-ethnology before training in fashion design and modeling at the Chardon Savard workshop, and who worked with designer Martin Margiela early in her career. She launched her eponymous label after winning the Dinard International Fashion Festival prize in 2006, and opened her first standalone boutique in the Marais district of Paris in 2009. In 2018 she expanded that address into a larger flagship with design workshops upstairs. Gauthier has described her commitment to sustainable and ethical production as dating to the label's founding in 2009. In 2019 she won the Grand Prix de la Creation de la Ville de Paris. Her collections use eco-sourced materials and are designed around comfort, modularity and longevity rather than seasonal trend cycles.
