Vero Moda was launched in 1987 by Bestseller founders Troels Holch Povlsen and Merete Bech Povlsen, two years after the Danish group had opened its first womenswear label, Exit. According to the company's own account, Povlsen settled on the name after seeing 'Vero Moda' printed on a T-shirt. The brand entered the Chinese market in 2001 and has since grown to more than 1,800 stores there alone, with a sales presence in 45 countries worldwide as part of the privately held Bestseller group, which the Holch Povlsen family founded in Denmark in 1975.
