What Adirondack Chocolates is known for
Founded in 1977 and known locally for decades as the Candy Man, this chocolatier has been run since 1995 by Cortland Forrence, now working alongside his sons Matt and Nate, with a Lake Placid retail shop that opened in 1997 alongside the original Wilmington chocolate factory. They hand-dip pretzels, patties, turtles and nonpareils in small batches, pulling stock in summer when the heat turns against chocolate.
