Bennu Coffee

Bennu Coffee runs three Austin locations — East on MLK Boulevard, South Congress, and Highland — all open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, a schedule aimed at the university crowd and night-shift regulars. The house specialty is the Raven, a dark-chocolate mocha finished with homemade whipped cream, but Bennu's more consequential claim is upstream of the menu: the shop's cold brew is credited as the direct inspiration for Chameleon Cold Brew, the bottled cold brew brand that went on to national grocery distribution — a rare case of a single independent café's recipe seeding a nationwide packaged-goods product. Beans are organic and fair trade, sourced through Texas Coffee Traders, and the shop runs a rotating French press program alongside the standard espresso menu. Food comes from other local vendors rather than an in-house kitchen — Fricano's Deli, Russell's Bakery and Hoboken Pie Company all supply Bennu's counter — and spent coffee grounds go back out to the public for composting.
