Cop Copine

Cop.Copine was founded in 1986 near Paris by brothers Alain and Léon Nédélian, initially under the name Copain-Copine, before the label was renamed Cop.Copine in 1993. The brothers built the brand around dark colorways, deconstructed cuts, and a gothic-tinged femininity, aiming to make trend-driven, asymmetrical, graphically printed womenswear accessible rather than exclusive, and it grew into a French ready-to-wear chain of roughly 48 stores at its peak, including outlets in the United States. In late 2020 the label's shareholders attempted a relaunch aimed at sharpening its brand image, backing it with several million euros in additional financial support, but the effort did not turn the business around; a state-guaranteed loan followed, and the first loan repayments in summer 2022 further strained its finances. Cop.Copine entered judicial receivership at the Bobigny commercial court in November 2022, and after no buyer emerged for the company as a whole, the court approved a partial takeover on January 31, 2023: the Antonelle–Un Jour Ailleurs retail group acquired 23 of the chain's 48 stores along with part of its inventory, converting those locations to the Antonelle banner, while the remaining stores, headquarters, and brand assets were liquidated. Despite that closure of the original bricks-and-mortar chain, the Cop.Copine name has continued in a reduced online-only form under the shortened branding 'copine paris,' which as of 2025–2026 was releasing seasonal collections through its own e-commerce site.
