Elstermühle roasts in small batches at a site on Käthe-Kollwitz-Straße and sells the results from a shop at Leipzig's Stadthafen, the city's old river harbor. Two named blends anchor the lineup: Karl der Große Espresso, a 65-percent-Arabica, 35-percent-Robusta mix built for crema and pull consistency, and Otto der Reiche, a straight 100-percent-Arabica cup for filter drinkers who want less bitterness. Both take their names from medieval rulers, a nod the roastery ties back to Leipzig's own coffeehouse history — the shop's other standing blend, Leipziger Käffchen, is named directly for that centuries-old local tradition.

Beyond the two house blends, Elstermühle runs a genuine rotation: a "Kaffee des Monats" swaps in a new single-origin lot every month, and the roastery documents its own trips to origin — a visit to coffee farms in Colombia among them — rather than buying exclusively through importers. The stated standard is quality starting at the green-bean stage, before the roast ever touches it.

For regulars, a subscription knocks 5 percent off standing orders, and the roastery also supplies cafés and corporate accounts under a separate B2B arrangement — a small operation that still runs a wholesale side alongside its own harbor-side retail counter.
