What Keventers is known for
Founded in 1925 by Danish dairy entrepreneur Edward Keventer at his Chanakyapuri dairy in New Delhi. Its Connaught Place milkshake kiosk survived the brand's 1970s near-collapse through independent distributors before Keventers was formally revived starting in 2014.
Keventers began in 1925, when Danish dairy entrepreneur Edward Keventer established a dairy farm and processing operation in what is now Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. The dairy built its reputation on milkshakes, sold across a network that grew to roughly 48 distribution points around Delhi during the British colonial period, including a stall in Connaught Place that became closely associated with the brand. Edward Keventer died in 1937, and in 1940 the business was bought by industrialist Ram Krishna Dalmia, who had previously worked as one of the brand's own distributors. By the years around Indian independence, Keventers had broadened from milkshakes into a wider range of dairy products. The company's original base was disrupted in the 1970s when the Delhi government acquired the Chanakyapuri plant as part of redeveloping the area for diplomatic use, and the formal Keventers company effectively lost its operating core. What kept the name alive through that period was a handful of independent distributors who continued running individual outlets, including the Connaught Place stall, without corporate backing or formal ownership of the brand. Keventers was relaunched as a structured company starting in 2014, rebuilding around the same milkshake format — served in glass bottles — that had defined the original Connaught Place stand.
