What Keventers (multiple) is known for
Milkshake chain tracing to 1925, when Swedish dairy technologist Edward Keventer opened a dairy farm in New Delhi's Chanakyapuri; the brand's glass-bottle shakes became a Raj-era status symbol and were revived as a retail chain from 2015.
Keventers traces to Edward Keventer, a Swedish dairy technologist who arrived in India in 1889. In 1925, he opened a dairy farm in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi - the year and place the brand still dates itself to on its bottles. Within roughly a decade, the operation had expanded into processing plants in Delhi, Aligarh, Calcutta and Darjeeling, building a dairy network well beyond a single shop.
The brand's defining product became its milkshakes, sold in reusable glass bottles sealed with a distinctive red cap - a format that, during the colonial and early post-independence period, functioned as something of a luxury item among Delhi's elite. That glass-bottle format became the brand's visual signature, still stamped today with "Since 1925" and "The Original Milkshake."
The modern retail chain is a comparatively recent revival rather than a continuously operating century-old shop: what began as an experiment around 2015 rebuilt Keventers as an Instagram-era, nostalgia-driven milkshake brand aimed at a younger customer base, and has since grown into a chain of roughly 150 outlets. The current business trades heavily on the 1925 dairy-farm origin story and the heritage bottle design, even as the retail format and footprint reflect the post-2015 relaunch rather than an unbroken century of operation.
