What Konisu Cafes is known for
Opened in 2020, Konisu runs Hakuba's only ski-through cafes, pulling espresso from freshly ground beans between runs at Lifts 2 and 6. Everything on the menu, from sourdough sandwiches to croissants and pies, is baked in-house each season.
Konisu holds a distinction no other operator at Hakuba's Cortina Valley can claim: since opening in 2020, its two counters have run as the valley's only ski-through cafes, letting skiers pull up on their boards and keep moving. Konisu #1 sits at Lift 6, open 9:30am to 3:30pm; Konisu Junior works the base at Lift 2 from 8:30am to 4:30pm, both running daily through the winter season, roughly late December into mid-March.
The draw is less the novelty of the format than what comes out of the ovens. Everything is baked in-house -- sourdough bread, pies, croissants, brownies, banana bread -- turned into sourdough sandwiches for the lunch crowd and paired with espresso pulled from freshly ground beans by trained baristas. Outdoor seating gives skiers a place to sit with a coffee and a pastry before clicking back into their bindings.
It is a narrow, specific kind of operation -- two counters, one season, one valley -- but it has held that ski-through niche to itself for five winters running, in a resort where most food service means stopping, unclipping and walking indoors.
