Paris women's fashion label founded 1983 in the Sentier district by Jean-Lou Tepper, Jacques Nataf and Philippe de Hesdin; joined Vivarte in 1996, reacquired by its Australian licensees in 2017; 200-plus stores today.

Kookai is a women's fashion label founded in 1983 in Paris's Sentier garment district by Jean-Lou Tepper, Jacques Nataf and Philippe de Hesdin, built around accessible, trend-driven wardrobe pieces. The brand expanded internationally early, launching in Australia in 1992 through licensees Robert Cromb and Danielle Vagner. In 1996 Kookai joined the French retail group Vivarte. In 2017, Cromb and Vagner acquired the European Kookai operation from Vivarte, unifying the brand's Australian and European businesses under single ownership. Kookai has weathered financial difficulty in France, including a period in receivership, but continues to trade there. Today the label operates more than 200 stores across Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
