What Le Slip Français is known for
Founded in 2011 by Guillaume Gibault, then a 25-year-old HEC Paris graduate, who launched with 600 pairs of underwear from a Dordogne factory on a €10,000 budget; product lines are named after French submarines, and the brand now runs 22 stores.
Le Slip Français was founded in September 2011 by Guillaume Gibault, then a 25-year-old graduate of the HEC Paris business school, after a friend bet him he couldn't successfully sell men's underwear. Gibault found a manufacturer in the Dordogne region willing to produce a first run, ordered 600 pairs on a launch budget of about €10,000, and personally drove the finished stock back to Paris in a rental car to sell online. The initial run sold out quickly, and the company generated roughly €40,000 in revenue within its first three months. Gibault gave the product lines a distinctive identity by naming individual models after French Navy submarines — including Le Redoutable, Le Terrible and Le Conquérant — reinforcing the 'Made in France' positioning built into the company's name. The brand grew from that single product into a broader collection of underwear, loungewear and basics, still manufactured domestically in France rather than offshored, and expanded into physical retail. By the mid-2020s the company reported roughly €27 million in annual net sales, around 120 employees, and 22 stores, having grown from a one-product bet into an established example of 'Made in France' manufacturing revival.
