The approach scaled further than most independent bookstores manage: McNally Jackson now runs five locations across the city — SoHo, Williamsburg, Seaport, Downtown Brooklyn, and Rockefeller Center — each keeping its own curated sections rather than a single centralized buying list.
The store also publishes under its own imprint, McNally Editions, putting the bookstore on the other side of the business it's spent two decades curating for. Signed copies, a Reader Rewards program, and dedicated kids' and YA sections round out a format built less around volume than around the idea that a bookstore's judgment — what it chooses to stock and promote — is itself the product.
