What Nat & Nin is known for
Paris leather goods label founded in 2005 by sisters Nathalie and Ninny, whose parents were leatherworkers who emigrated from China in the 1980s and worked for major French maisons near Canal Saint-Martin. Opened its first Paris boutique in March 2014.
Nat & Nin was founded in Paris in 2005 by sisters Nathalie and Ninny, working under the shortened names Nat and Nin. Their parents had emigrated from China in the 1980s and worked as leatherworkers for established French fashion houses, running a workshop near the Canal Saint-Martin in Paris; the sisters grew up around that trade and inherited both the technical know-how and the taste for leather goods from their parents' work for prestigious maisons. They designed and produced their first handbag line while still young — accounts of the brand's founding put Nathalie and Ninny at 25 and 19 respectively when they started — building a label known for colorful, Italian-leather bags and wallets aimed at a more accessible price point than the luxury houses their parents had once supplied. The sisters later extended the family business with a men's leather goods line called Antonyme, named for their younger brother Anthony, broadening Nat & Nin from handbags into a wider leather goods offering. The label operated for its first years primarily through wholesale and online sales before opening its first standalone Nat & Nin boutique in Paris in March 2014, giving the brand a permanent retail presence in the city where it started as a family leatherworking story two generations earlier.
