Only NY was founded at the close of 2006 by Micah Belamarich, then a graphic design student at the Fashion Institute of Technology, and his high-school friend Julian Goldstein. Digging through New York City's graphic archives, the pair gravitated toward the Parks Department's iconography, and have released seasonal NYC Parks capsule collections ever since. The brand opened a flagship store on the Lower East Side and grew from an independent streetwear-adjacent label into an official design partner for New York City agencies, producing apparel for the Department of Parks and Recreation, the Department of Sanitation and the MTA.
