Oxybul traces back to 1989, when Margaret Milan, unhappy with the quality of toys available for her own children, started Eveil & Jeux as a mail-order catalogue of educational and playful toys, run out of a garage by a team of parents rather than a conventional retail operation. The company grew from that catalogue model into childcare products and, in 2000, established the Fondation Eveil & Jeux, aimed at improving children's access to play and learning-through-play, particularly for disadvantaged children, a project tied to the brand's founding rationale about the educational value of toys. Between 2001 and 2010, the company operated jointly with Fnac's youth division under the name Fnac Eveil & Jeux, which is also when its first physical stores opened, moving the business beyond mail order. Following a change in shareholders, the chain was renamed Oxybul éveil et jeux on 14 February 2011. Today it operates roughly 40 stores across France, serving children from birth to age 12 and their parents, with the original emphasis on educational and awakening-focused ('éveil') toys, books, games and craft kits still organizing its product range.
