Phenix

Phenix was founded in Japan in 1952 by Kazuo Tajima, who set out to build ski apparel informed by the skiing cultures of Europe, the United States and Japan rather than any single national tradition. The company moved quickly into technical innovation: in 1955, it was among the first skiwear makers to adopt nylon, then a new synthetic material, laying the groundwork for its identity as an engineering-focused rather than purely fashion-focused ski brand. Phenix built its credibility over subsequent decades through national-team supply contracts; it is the official technical-apparel supplier to Norway's Alpine ski team, one of the sport's traditionally strongest programs, and extended a similar sponsorship to Sweden's Alpine national team beginning with the 2024–25 season. In 2008, ownership of Phenix passed to the Chinese sportswear conglomerate China Dongxiang, which acquired the company as part of a broader push into international sports and outdoor brands, though Phenix has continued to operate and design under its own name and Japanese engineering identity. The brand's positioning bridges its Japanese origins and its European racing-team partnerships, marketing itself on technical alpine performance credentials rather than general outdoor leisurewear.
