Rue de Tokyo

Rue de Tokyo was founded in 2016 in Copenhagen by David Andersson Sahlin. The brand's name comes from Sahlin's time living in Paris, where he became close friends with a Japanese man named Yui; the name is meant to hold together the French and Japanese threads of that friendship rather than describe an actual street. That French-Japanese pairing carries into the clothes: the label designs quiet, minimal menswear silhouettes but sources fabric with an emphasis on Japanese textile-making, including cloth woven on traditional shuttle looms, a slower process than modern high-speed weaving that produces a denser, more textured fabric. The brand positions its clothing as everyday pieces built for longevity from carefully chosen materials rather than seasonal trend pieces, and has since collaborated with outside partners, including a licensed collection built around the Moomin characters.
