What Small Victory Bakery is known for
Small Victory traces to a family bakery its owners' parents started on West Broadway after immigrating to Vancouver from Kenya in the 1970s. The next generation, led by Afshan Nathoo, launched the Small Victory brand in Yaletown around 2010, milling its own flour.
Small Victory's roots reach back further than its Yaletown storefront suggests. The family behind the brand immigrated to Vancouver from Kenya in the 1970s and started a small bakery on West Broadway, supplying bread to other locally owned businesses around the city long before the Small Victory name existed.
The next generation, led by co-founder and CEO Afshan Nathoo, took that foundation and built it into one of Vancouver's more recognizable artisanal bakery brands, launching the Small Victory concept in Yaletown around 2010. Nathoo has called Yaletown "home" for the brand, describing it as where the business truly started, even though its baking lineage predates that location by decades.
The bakery mills its own flour in-house and makes its breads, croissants, danishes, and pastries from scratch daily, alongside a specialty coffee program and weekend brunch service. It has since expanded to Mount Pleasant, South Granville, Marinaside Crescent, and Brentwood in Burnaby, spreading a family recipe first developed on West Broadway across several more of Vancouver's neighborhoods.
